Jax Lee

Jacqueline Lee

Major in Philosophy and Minor in Comparative Literature

Jacqueline graduated magna cum laude from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) with a B.A. in philosophy and a minor in comparative literature in 2021. She initially pursued a career in law, then went on to work in the Los Angeles film Industry as a member of the International Alliance of Stage Employees (IATSE)-- fulfilling her dream of authentically portraying diverse scenes and stories. Desiring to create more of a direct and tangible impact on her community, Jacqueline decided to explore her longstanding interest in child behavior and psychology by enrolling in undergraduate psychology courses and simultaneously working as an elementary school substitute teacher with the Los Angeles Unified School District. Here, she worked closely with a diverse child population and witnessed the profound need for basic mental health and education resources for students and their families, especially in light of the devastating consequences of unaddressed Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s). These experiences led Jacqueline to enroll in UC Irvine’s psychology post-baccalaureate program, in the hopes of one day obtaining a PhD in clinical child psychology. Her goal is to research and contribute to our understanding of childhood trauma’s influence on physical and mental wellbeing, as well as the impactful ways in which children’s entertainment programming can serve as an enriching and widely-accessible mental health and education resource for all children, no matter their socioeconomic status or ability.

I’m super excited about the STEP Lab because it brings together things I’m passionate about: psychology, physiology, and mental health. I hope to become a LCSW in the future and I’m passionate about helping others heal and thrive, especially in communities that are often overlooked. Being a first-gen student and the daughter of Mexican immigrants has taught me the importance of resilience and I love that the STEP Lab explores how people grow through challenges. I’m really looking forward to learning more about research that can turn into real world tools to support mental health and happiness. In my free time I love going to the gym, reading, and spending time with my family and friends.

Major in Psychology

I am pursuing psychology and research due to my love for all things people-related since I love working with others and just meeting new people which leads me to my dream of working with children in the future!
